שָׁסַס“to plunder”The word שָׁסַס (shasas) is the doubled-consonant shape of the Hebrew verb meaning to plunder, ransack, or strip bare, and it is the shape under which this small word family is studied. It says exactly what the other shape, שָׁסָה (shasah), says, and the two were used interchangeably: in Jeremiah 30:16 the written consonants of one single word follow this shape while the traditional way of reading it aloud follows the other. This is the shape the Bible reaches for when it says that houses will be plundered, and the one Judges 2:14 uses for the raiders actually doing the plundering.
