חֹר“hole”The word chor, "hole," is the usual and better known spelling of this noun. It covers any opening or hollow: the hole a priest bored in the lid of the offering chest, the opening in a door through which a lover reaches his hand, the gap knocked through a wall in Ezekiel's vision, the burrows and rock crevices people crawl into when an army comes, a lion's lair packed with prey, and the sockets that hold the eyes. Its other spelling, chur, is the very same word written with a fuller vowel, so the two are studied together under chor.
