חָבָא“to hide”The verb chava is the ordinary Hebrew word for hiding: to hide yourself when you are afraid or in danger, to conceal another person or thing in order to keep it safe, or to be kept out of sight. It is the common and most flexible form of a tiny two-word family. Its close relative chavah means exactly the same thing but is used far less often and only of a person hiding, so chava is the word to rely on for the whole idea of hiding.
