גּוּר“whelp”The word gur, "cub," is the better known of the two spellings of this noun for the young of a wild animal, almost always a lion. It is the form behind the famous blessings on Judah and on Dan, where each tribe is called "a lion's cub," and behind the lioness and her cubs in Ezekiel's lament over the princes of Judah. It is also the one place the word is used of an animal other than a lion, the jackals nursing their young in Lamentations. Apart from the vowel, it is the same word as the spelling gor.
