גָּבֶר“great man”גֶּבֶר is the standard, well attested spelling of this word for "a man": the grown male, named with a raised, poetic dignity. It is the form used throughout Job, the Psalms, Proverbs, Jeremiah and Lamentations, and it is the one to read for the word's full range. The shorter spelling גְּבַר, which turns up once, in the reciprocity saying of Psalm 18:25, is the same word and means the same thing.
